Blumhouse Adapts "Something is Killing the Children"
The chilling world of James Tynion IV and Werther Dell'Edera's acclaimed comic series, Something is Killing the Children, is about to leap from the page to both the big and small screens. Blumhouse Productions, the powerhouse behind some of today's most iconic horror films, has acquired the rights to develop the series into both a live-action feature film and an animated series geared towards adults.
Something is Killing the Children has captivated readers with its dark premise: children can see the terrifying monsters lurking in the shadows, while adults remain blissfully unaware. Erica Slaughter, a monster hunter belonging to a clandestine organization, steps into this terrifying reality, more concerned with concealing the monsters' existence than saving lives.
Blumhouse's strategy will see parallel development of both the film and the animated series. James Tynion IV, co-creator of the comic, will adapt and executive produce the animated project, ensuring the series stays true to its source material. Werther Dell'Edera, the comic's other co-creator, will serve as Co-Executive Producer and lend his visual expertise as a development consultant.
On the film side, Stephen Christy from BOOM! Studios will produce alongside James Tynion IV. Adam Yoelin and Mette Norkjaer are attached as Executive Producers, while Werther Dell'Edera will co-produce.
Tynion IV expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, emphasizing the importance of finding a collaborator who truly grasped the potential of Erica Slaughter and the world he created with Dell'Edera. He lauded Jason Blum's deep understanding of horror, expressing excitement for the future projects.
Stephen Christy echoed this sentiment, noting the deal with Blumhouse as a major milestone for BOOM! Studios. He highlighted Blum's commitment to honoring Tynion and Dell'Edera's vision.
The success of Something is Killing the Children guarantees a substantial run, with BOOM! Studios planning for at least 100 issues. At New York Comic-Con 2025, the announcement of a new event series, Fall of the House of Slaughter, was revealed, setting the stage for the landmark 50th issue in 2026.
